Clinical & counselling psychology for adults

A steady space to feel, think, and heal.

I'm Melanie Adler, a registered psychologist based in Toronto, working virtually with adults across Ontario. I help clients work through a range of concerns — with warmth, structure, and evidence behind every session.

Therapy that respects your time, your story, and your goals.

Life can feel heavy sometimes — anxiety that won't quiet down, depression that's dulled things you used to enjoy, the weight of something difficult that happened to you, chronic pain, a loss you're carrying, a big life change, or a relationship that could use some care. Wherever you're starting from, we can work through it together.

I'm a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, and I work with adults through a warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative lens. There's no one-size-fits-all plan — we'll shape therapy around what you actually need, grounded in research and clinical evidence. My foundation is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and I bring in tools from other evidence-based approaches, among them Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Therapy, whenever they're a better fit for what you're working through.

"Let everything happen to you. Beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final."

Areas of focus

Support built around where you are

Every plan starts with a conversation. These are some of the areas I work with most often, among others.

Anxiety disorders

Practical, skills-based work for generalized anxiety, panic, agoraphobia, social anxiety, and health anxiety.

Depression

Support for low mood, low motivation, and getting back to feeling and functioning more like yourself.

Psychological trauma

Evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure.

Chronic pain

Psychological support for living well alongside ongoing pain — separate from, and in addition to, medical care.

Adjustment difficulties

Career changes, becoming a parent, divorce, relocation, illness — support for the in-between moments.

Relationship challenges

One-on-one work on assertiveness and communication, navigating conflict, and enhancing connection in your relationships.

Grief & loss

A steady, unhurried space to process loss — of a person, a relationship, or a version of your life.

How we'll work together

A clear path from first message to real change

01

Free consultation

A 15-minute call to talk through what's going on and whether we're a good fit.

02

Intake session

An initial 50-minute session to map your history, goals, and what "better" looks like for you — often includes a diagnostic assessment to guide treatment planning.

03

Weekly sessions

50-minute sessions with honest check-ins, consistent structure, and assigned homework where useful.

04

Ongoing progress monitoring

We track how things are progressing throughout treatment, drawing on your self-reported experience, my clinical observations, and, at times, standardized psychometric measures.

05

Tapering & booster sessions

Once progress is made and holds steady for a while, we space sessions out — with booster sessions available as needed.

06

Ending therapy

When your goals are met and you're comfortably using your tools on your own, with progress holding over time, we bring things to a close together.

Questions

Good to know before your first session

Do you accept insurance?

My services aren't billed directly to insurers, but many extended health benefits plans cover services from a registered psychologist. I can provide a receipt for you to submit for reimbursement — happy to talk through specifics on our consultation call.

How much do sessions cost?

Please contact me directly to discuss fees.

How often will we meet?

Most clients start weekly. As things stabilize, we often move to biweekly or monthly check-ins together.

Why virtual sessions?

Research shows video therapy works about as well as in-person for most concerns. It also means you can meet with me from anywhere in Ontario, without a commute.

What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?

That's exactly what the free consultation is for — no pressure, no commitment, just a conversation to see if this is a good fit.
